IT SURPASSED EXPECTATIONS!
"Mastering Diversity" is not about entrepreneurship...it is personal. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion affects us all in many different ways. It is as relevant to children as it is to adults. It is important to farmers, tech experts, the religious, Charity and third sector workers and those involved in politics and innovation. It affects gender and gender equality proponents. Diversity, Equality and Inclusion also is a socio-economic and social welfare matter.
Wales is very diverse and has been going through an awakening in respect of the importance of focusing on deliberate diversity but there is a lot left to be done. In order to change something within the society, we must do it from the ground up. The critical mass, the Global Majority, commerce, entrepreneurship and technology are just a few key imperatives. But, it starts with the people, with our communities and true engagement.
Mastering Diversity Conference Wales aims to bring together ALL sectors together in one iconic venue and deal with these hard topics:
To quote from Bernie in her Book Mastering Diversity- We go together or not at all"
"I am most grateful for my wonderful bi-racial, eclectic blended family consisting of my 4 amazing children, Jerome, Joel, Matthew, and Barri-Allison. My 2 stepchildren, Matthew and Rebecca, my Godson Samuel and our 12 beautiful grandchildren. My wonderful wind beneath my wings…husband Mark! There are no words! It has been a painful and joyful journey mixing families, cultures, beliefs, and expectations...
...Why do I want to focus on Wales? Wales is now my home and has been my home since 2006. But most importantly it is the place I became acutely aware of the importance of deliberate diversity. It is also the place that I came face to face with unconscious bias, discrimination, and racism. And it is also the place where I found true acceptance, and also the place that I found “no closed doors” for a very long time. Wales is the place, I realised that being different was actually an advantage.
You might ask, “What are you saying Bernie? You are contradicting yourself?” It may sound like a contradiction, but this is my truth and my experience is not unique. Moreover, it highlights that in a world where you can find hate separation discrimination and bias...in that same world you can find acceptance, unconditional love, and togetherness.
This is why I am writing this book about mastering diversity. And even more so why I will be focusing most of my anecdotal research evidence on Wales. Wales is now my home and there is a saying that charity begins at home. So my focus is not to heal the world. My focus is to heal my world. My beautiful, green, lush world…Wales. And to bloom where I am planted."
"We Go Together or Not at All!"
The Mastering Diversity Conference is not a tick box exercise. My intention is to use the conference as a means to get the best minds and expertise in one space, have conversations, learn, teach, craft and re-imagine. Most importantly, the conference will inform pieces of work which we will take away and deliver.
I am so grateful that Gemma Casey of Natwest has committed to joining the Natwest Diversity Taskforce's work with the Mastering Diversity Conference. Together with this incredible team of experts who have committed their time to advise, encourage support me, there will be follow up work after the event. We will produce a Conference Report and progress recommended actions coming out of the findings within the Zone Rooms and the overall activities.
We will be reaching out to organisations and individuals directly on the development of clear actions and strategies.
Georgios Dimitropoulos, Head of Swansea University Media Suite is also spearheading a Feature Documentary on the Conference and the work ensuing from the debates, conversations, presentations and workshops.
Mastering Diversity Conference 2024, we will be reporting on the difference we all made TOGETHER in 2023-2024!

There were workshops, Q&As and Keynotes
Too often, society we marginalise and overlook the neuro-diverse. Sometimes we pay homage to neuro-diversity by ticking a box or delivering a workshop and even establishing a policy. Whilst that is a start, there is so much more to consider.
Have we given a thought to those amongst us who have been adopted, fostered or have not had the conventional introduction to family life that some of us have? STABLE CEO

NATWEST and Mastering Diversity Conference has launched a Taskforce. Each member of our team comes to the table with their own unique lived experiences but with a shared passion for spreading the diversity message. They are experts in their fields and Bernie is privileged to have them on board!
There's much to be gained from getting this message out into the Welsh communities. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about me and my work. Here's hoping you get inspired to support or be supported by me and my colleagues. Please take a moment to drop me a line. We need sponsors and more.
My gratitude goes out to Seren Global Media.
